On April 24, Signature HealthCARE of Columbia broke the World Record for longest wheelchair race, with 205 wheelchairs. The record was previously held by the Christopher Reeve Foundation, with 193 wheelchairs. Local radio station WXRQ was on hand broadcasting live from the parade, and WSMV-TV (channel 4) featured the event on its six o’clock newscast. Our residents here at Signature HealthCARE of Orange Park recently spent a day at the Clay County Fairgrounds for ‘Senior Day.’ The group visted the Early Florida Village and sampled country cooking, homemade lemonade and sweet tea. Residents also enjoyed petting the 4H/FFA livestock, watching the World Famous Frisbee Dogs perform, and seeing a special live music performance by the Sweeney Family Band & Willy’s Washboard Jamboree.

Signature HealthCARE of Orange Park has been designated one of the nation’s ‘Best Nursing Homes‘ by U.S. News & World Report, according to a report released this week by the national news magazine.
SHC of Orange Park was one of several homes operated by Louisville, Ky.-based Signature HealthCARE that were named to the list, which is compiled using data published in January by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
U.S. News has awarded the ‘Best Nursing Home’ distinction to homes that earned an overall rating of five stars, the highest rating CMS awards nursing homes. Under the five-star rating system, nursing homes are assessed in three main categories: health inspections, quality measures and staffing. The overall rating combines scores received in each of the three categories.
Urban South road trip brings holiday cheer to nursing home residents, staff

Signature HealthCARE’s Urban South management team are bringing a hefty dose of holiday cheer to several nursing homes as they continue to travel more than 1,300 miles throughout South Florida this week.
The journey began last week when a team of nine piled in a van and hit the road, donning holiday costumes and armed with a Polaroid camera, gift baskets and other goodies. “Santa” and “Mrs. Claus” – Kahari Wood and Denise Rinehart – were joined by a crew of elves (Kim Morrow, David Kahn, Vanessa Hourihan, Debbie Turner, Vivian Bowers) and a couple of reindeer (Patty Zittel, Amy Allen).
Between last Wednesday and Friday, they visited nine Signature facilities: College Park, Brookwood Gardens, Golfcrest, Palm Bay, Ormond Beach, Winter Park, Gainesville, Orange Park and Cedar Hills.
The crew sang songs, took pictures, visited every resident room and passed out candy canes, along with the more than 900 bags of Hershey Kisses they prepared. They also gave each facility a basket filled with gift cards and other items to raffle off, give as a door prize or whatever facility leaders chose.
“Between the stakeholders and residents, they didn’t know what to think,” said Reindeer Amy Allen. “It was so special.”
Kahari Wood put on a perfect performance as Santa, Allen said, as they visited with residents at all different levels of functionality.
“He just has the kindest soul and was so incredibly touching,” she said. “Everybody smiles, pretty much, when they see Santa Claus.”
This week, they group will visit Golfview, Tarpon Springs and Southern Pines. Regional segment leader and Pink Elf Kim Morrow praised her team’s efforts.
“I cannot even count the number of times we heard, ‘you made my day’ from stakeholders and residents,” she said. “The awakening in the eyes of some of our residents was emotional for me, to think of the happiness, comfort and nostalgia they brought for that moment. In between costume changes and facility visits, they managed two surveys, other issues and the rest of their day-to-day work – amazing.”
Beechtree News Network featured Morgantown Care & Rehab, a Signature HealthCARE facility, in an article about its recent Hall of Fame Café induction ceremony. To read more about the event and the inductees, click HERE.
Merciful encounters.
Signature HealthCARE hosts second annual Senior Olympics at Louisville home office

On Wednesday, Oct. 10, Signature HealthCARE hosted its second annual Senior Olympics games for nine Signature nursing homes across Kentucky. About 60 nursing home residents competed in the games, and a total of about 200 people attended. Celebrity judges included Bellarmine University men’s basketball coach Scotty Davenport, famed sports writer Billy Reed and Roger Burkman, who played for the University of Louisville and the Chicago Bulls.
Signature HealthCare Resident Peter Panuthos had only dreamed of getting back onto the golf course, after his illness forced him into the loving hands of our long term care facility- Signature HealthCare of Orange Park Florida. Peter would ask his wife Jane Panuthos to bring his golf clubs and take him out golfing on a regular basis, Peter could not understand that his wife Jane could not do this alone due to Pete’s illness. When SHC administrator Alex Russell got word that we had a un-happy Resident she was on the phone immediately trying to make Pete’s dream a reality- Tee Time was set at Orange Park Golf and Country Club less than 2 miles from the facility. Ms. Jane was in shock…..Monday happened to also be their 22nd Wedding Anniversary.

Four of our Residents at SHC Of Orange Park, were treated to a night out at the Jacksonville Suns baseball game on Tues, Aug.21. Haven Hospice Ernie Cohen donated the tickets after hearing that Residents had been saving for months to attend the game. Residents were escorted by Signature Staff members, Supora Fairbanks & Dana Lucas.
